Nel 1935 l'archeologo Indiana Jones recupera per un potente di Shangai un prezioso cimelio. Ma le cose non vanno per il meglio e Indiana è costretto a fuggire su di un piccolo aereo insieme ad una cantante di cabaret e ad un ragazzino cinese che gli fa da guida. Abbandonato dai piloti, l'aereo precipita sulle montagne tibetane ai confini con l'India.
