Jim è innamorato di Susan, una strampalata ragazza che ama vivere in modo libero e indipendente. Non sapendo come rintracciarla, Jim la cerca attraverso un annuncio su un quotidiano. L'inserzione viene notata da Roberta, una romantica borghese che si è stancata del marito, grossista di vasche da bagno, e sogna nuove avventure.
