Un giovanotto, cuoco in una tavola calda, è innamorato della bella cameriera Margaret, ma non sa dichiararsi. In suo aiuto interviene il Diavolo in persona, consentendogli sette opportunità di successo in cambio dell'anima. Naturalmente il beffardo Signore delle Tenebre fa naufragare tutti i sette tentativi. Poi però, per distrazione, restituisce l'anima all'ormai disperato giovanotto.
