Rachel Weisz interpreta Hester Collyer, la moglie trofeo di un giudice (Simon Russel Beale) della corte suprema, di mezza età, che si innamora di un ex-pilota (Tom Hiddleston) della RAF, che ha combattuto durante la seconda guerra mondiale e che oggi, diventato un alcolizzato, le dà il suo primo orgasmo.
