Il rapporto tra Macom e Sarah è in crisi dopo la morte tragica del figlioletto. La donna avvia le pratiche per il divorzio. Macom, che di mestiere scrive guide turistiche per viaggiatori frettolosi, si rifugia nella casa paterna. Dovendo partire per un viaggio, affida il cane a un'agenzia gestita da Muriel, esuberante e divorziata. Tra i due nasce un affetto consolidato anche dalla presenza del figlio di Muriel; quando Sarah cerca di rimettersi in gioco è ormai tardi.
