Un pilota canadese insinua il sospetto che Sir Mark Loddon, da lui conosciuto in un lager tedesco, sia in realtà stato ucciso da un suo sosia, che si è così sostituito a lui. Sir Loddon, in realtà, è autentico ma soffre di amnesie che ne rendono fragile la posizione. Nonostante ciò, su pressione della moglie, sporge querela ed è costretto ad affrontare il processo, nel corso del quale si fa largo drammaticamente la verità.
