Miranda, una conduttrice televisiva, ha scelto la carriera sacrificando la vita privata e la maternità. Sandy è invece una mamma single, il cui ex marito ha sposato da poco una donna molto più giovane. Bradley sta crescendo da solo una figlia adolescente ma ciò per lui comporta talvolta dei grandi imbarazzi. Jesse, infine, sembra avere qualche problema con la madre che non accetta il passare degli anni, mentre Kristin è stata adottata e non ha mai conosciuto la madre biologica.
